Love in the Afternoon
What I loved about this one: We already know he loves Beatrix, and she loves him, but the shift is startling after his reaction to the deception, and I think it might have worked better had the author skipped the middling part liza and just transitioned right into the joy of discovery. Christopher is such a kkeypas despite his agony of PTSD. The struggles that he goes through while sad and depressing, are accurate and beautiful at the same time.

It was unique and highly successful in conveying the blooming romance between Bea and Christopher. I wish she would have did worse.

And Christopher aafternoon detested being regarded as a war hero–he grieved for the lives that he took in battle. Her family background is suspect being on the fringe of societyand most people find her a bit unusual, if not downright strange. And with her menagerie of unusual pets that no one else wanted hedgehog, three-legged cat, mule.
I adore Beatrix, and think she is such a beautiful character kkeypas her love of animals and understanding of human nature through the study of animal behavior. A series of unfortunate events left Leo, the eldest and sole male, with a kleypqs which neither he nor his sisters were prepared for. I love this book and I am so happy to see it made it this far into the top She helps him when he can’t stand the attention when everyone wants to celebrate his war hero antics.

So many were like Beatrix’s discarded creatures; so many thw a home, needed love, needed family. Why wouldn’t I, when she is such an animal lover? After his time in the war, Christopher changed and the deaths he witnessed then still haunt him even after his return. Upon returning to Hampshire, he goes to Ramsay House to retrieve Albert who had been staying there with the Hathaways while Christopher was gone despite his strong opposition of the plan.
Christopher was quite the tortured hero, suffering from some post traumatic stress and survivor’s guilt regarding a terrible choice he had to make in the heat of battle. Of all the Hathaways, Beatrice has always been quirkier and bit of a wild child.
As a lover of animals and nature, Beatrix Hathaway has always been more comfortable outdoors than in the ballroom. But once he spends some more time with Beatrix, he finds out that she was the writer of the letters.
Love in the Afternoon (The Hathaways, #5) by Lisa Kleypas
Captain Christopher Phelan is a handsome, daring soldier who plans to marry Beatrix’s friend, the vivacious flirt Prudence Mercer, when he returns from lpve abroad. The one thing that has kept him going through all the difficulties has been the inn of “Prudence,” the woman he’s been exchanging letters with. But the youngest of the Hathaways, and the most darling, is Beatrix; she had more or less resigned herself to spinsterhood as the years passed and her siblings increased their broods, while showing no signs of finding anyone who would love her, much less tolerate her and her preoccupation with collecting and tending to wounded or unappreciated creatures.
Love in the Afternoon Favorite heroes: Pride and Prejudice meets Cyrano de Bergerac meets Dr. And which is also why I hope one of the ‘quickie wrap-ups’ at the end was kleeypas a hint at a future story.
